IBM Dragon boat team has success in the NSW Corporate Games
Due to increasing popularity in dragon boat racing, we were able to enter 2 teams in the NSW Corporate Games on Sunday, March 25: IBM Black & IBM Red – the colours of our uniforms.
After a hot and sunny Saturday, Sunday was anything but that! IBM Red competed in the morning heats; IBM Black in the afternoon.
IBM Red did not make the semis but did wow the crowd in the last pool race when the 2 paddlers in the first row paddled standing up for the last part of the race, a method used in Asia to gain a longer reach & hence a faster time.
IBM Black were the real stars! They won each of their pool races and continued on the win their semi final, posting the best time of the afternoon crews and second fastest for both semi finals.
In the final they placed 3rd, the podium finish being:
GHD Gurus
ING Sea Lions
IBM Black Dragons
Each member of the team received a medal and both crews were quite excited about our teams’ successes.
Celebrations continued at our regular post-race venue of the Lone Star in Penrith, medals becoming part of the team uniform!
